So my 6 chickens are 5 month old, not laying eggs yet, live in a big pen, and sleep cooped up
The past few days I've noticed one (spazzy by name) is slow to come out of the coop in the morning and hangs out by herself along corners of the pen, she isn't pecking around much, i have seen her eat but, she doesn't come running when I come to feed/clean like normal. I have seen some loose caramel colored poop around.
I'm gathering quickly she might be sick, this is our first flock, I do remember reading about and getting medicated feed in beginning for preventing coccidiosis?? I hope I can help her, and she;s not too uncomfortable!!??

Could you post a photo of her? That would help. :)
What does her manure look like (a photo of that to might help... if you can).
Is she underweight (i.e her breastbone protrudes a lot)?

Sorry for all the questions... I am trying to help by narrowing down a few possibilities... By the description, it could be almost anything. :p
I hope she is doing better soon!

she doesn't seem like she's underweight, her poop is watery light brown, I saw it yesterday but I cleaned everything once I deciided she might be sick, this morning it looked clearish whitish I have included picture
I realize it's vague, sorry!.and thanks for reply! :)....I am going to grain store this morning to hopefully get some help

It does sound and look as iff something is off with her. It looks like she is close to laying. Sorry I can't offer more. BTW, I like your run. It's nice to see a run that is not bare soil! Kudos to you.

I am hoping that's what it is....gonna be our first layer maybe, one of them keeps making a circular nest bed up in nest box
Thank you! I'm trying to keep her comfy so making nice dry hay beds in the corners she likes hang out in...plus we've had alot of rain so I put down dry hay often...who wants to walk around in wet dirt? gross...I feel bad enough they can't roam around the yard so I make their pen/run as clean and interesting as possible with herbs from my garden and dig up native weeds around the yard for them

Welcome to BYC!

She does look ready to lay, very red comb/wattles, and the nest disturbances are another sign. She may be working on a softie, that can make them act really weird-harder to push down the pipes, soft shell eggs are not uncommon with new layers. Even with a good hard egg those first ones can be disconcerting for them.

Loose stools can be from many things...first thought is hot weather, they drink more and it goes right thru them to shed body heat....next thought is herb and weeds could give them the runs too.

My SLW was the first new layer this year.

Yup, she is probably getting ready to lay. She's feeling something changing in her, instincts to nest are kicking in. Some hens just go right into laying like old pros the first time. Others pace back and forth along then pen, cackling. And others move off by themselves sitting with tail feathers up. Keep an eye on her, sometimes they will lay an egg outside of the nest box. She is a beautiful hen!

Yes! that's exactly what she's doing!...I just went out there and they are all hanging together around Spazzy the "lay" chicken, mind you at the moment we have hurricane Jose winds up here in the northeast!... of course they come running when I came out, thanks!! her comb is rose too
