Sudden paralysis in golden comet

we had a dog get after our chickens Sunday afternoon while they were free ranging. All the chickens seemed fine- we found the golden comet really far from the coop (I think she was chased and maybe even caught a few times). She seemed ok when we found her and put her back in the coop-except she wouldn’t jump on the roost so we put her on the lowest one but each morning she would be the first one ready to go out. Thursday afternoon we found her in the bottom of the coop completely unable to stand or walk. When we try to help her stand- she just collapses toward her front end. We checked for egg bound but didn’t feel any egg. She isn’t really interested in eating or drinking-she will take 3-4 pecks at scrambled egg and about as many drinks of water. I have been giving her electrolytes in a syringe since Thursday night. I did find some feathers missing and some bruising on her chest area above and between her legs. I’ve got her in the house so I can watch her. Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks!!!

Well keeping her in the house is definitely best right now so the other chickens don't attack. I had one of my chickens completely lose all use of both of her legs out of nowhere for no reason and then twice after two weeks regain the use. Don't know whatever happened or why but sounds like this had a reason behind it. try adding some vitamins maybe I like to use the nutri drench when any of my animals are off feed. Did you feel her down to make sure you don't feel anything unusual? Hopefully she just sprained something. I've had chickens do that and after a few days they're healed up and good to go

And depending on how little she's drinking you could use a small syringe of course without the needle to slowly get water in her. Just make sure it's very slow Between the vitamins and water that will at least get what she needs in her while you figure out what exactly is wrong
I liked my golden comments when I first got them but they're always the ones I seem to have issues with. Maybe just a coincidence

Isolate her by putting her in a cage where u can supervise her. with her favorite eats. Keep her warm . If the flock knows there is something wrong they will pick on her.

Welcome to BYC. It is hard to know if this was a result of the predator attack or not. Perhaps she suffered internal injuries, or was stressed so much that some other disease has appeared. Chickens can have inflammation or swelling from internal organs which can cause temporary paresis or paralysis. I would if possible leave her in the coop inside a dog crate with food and water, so that she can feel comfortable with flock. Several times a day, offer some goodies—watery chicken feed, scrambled egg, tuna or salmon, to tempt her to eat and drink. Poultry vitamins that include riboflavin on the label would be good to use in her water or food. NutriDrench does not have riboflavin, by the way.

Wow I've never heard about the riboflavin thing. I'm gonna have to remember to put that in my birds first aid kit too. Nutri drench has always been my go to and always worked well but I haven't run in to every problem. Good call!

Poultry Cell is almost identical to Poultry NutriDrench, but it has the riboflavin or vitamin B2. Some other chick vitamins do also contain riboflavin, but just check the labels.

I’ve noticed she’s keeping one foot curled up and the other open. She does pull them away slightly when I pinch between her toes. She has wanted to eat and drink a little
More on her own today but I’m still giving her electrolytes by syringe. Her poop is watery- but I’m guessing that’s bc she’s only really
Been getting the electrolyte fluid and not eating much.
