Isaw two of my three Americauna hens eating an egg this PM. I don't know if theyopened it or what, it wasn't fertilized. The third is sitting in the coop doing her thing. The egg was far away from the coop as well. I am pretty sure that one of those two hens produces eggs as well. Are they getting enough protein, calcium whatever? Is it a freak thing? Like Issaid, I don't even know if they started it to eat. Now what?

I have seen a few of my chickens eating eggs. I believe that if one breaks for some reason, they will eat it. That doesn't necessarily mean they will always break open eggs and eat them, but I have heard once they realize that eggs are food, they may become egg eaters.
I dont think that it indicates a nutrition problem. If the egg was broke, one might have started eating, and the other joined in the open buffet . Just keep an eye on them, and keep an eye out for signs of broken eggs, or pieces of shell ( because yes, they will eat the shell too). Hopefullyit was just a "crime of opportunity"
