Suddenly "Evil"

You may be able to break up her broodiness. First you must remove her nest, and second you must keep her with a bright light all night. No dark areas or corners to hide in. This will stop her from wanting to sit on eggs. Her broodiness may stop after 3-6 days.
Good luck

Mine is in the same broody mood. Next week we will take away her nest box and her wooden eggs. I give her a few weeks to let her get it out of her system and recoup from laying. Also, I pick her up (gloves & long sleeves) and put her in a cool pond.

Why not give her some fertile eggs and let her be a mom? I know, now *I'm* evil!

I can think of dozens of reasons *not* to do that, but it would be fun, wouldn't it?

Good luck with her--sounds like normal, good-mama broodiness to me.

Thats good to hear..... (that it's normal, not that it's hard on them). I assumed this was the case but am a worrier by nature and wanted to be sure.

I would rather her continue with these than to replace them, and I definitely don't want to put her on wire floor, so I guess I'll leave them with her.

I don't think we can manage that. Her nighttime bed IS a dark corner.

She loves it in her bed and paces and peeps if she doesn't go in there at night (I know from her experience with surgery recovery....it was a tough time lol)

Why do you pitch her eggs????

If you don't want to eat them, someone might! Give them away on craig's list or something.

And yes, sounds broody.

I pitch them because she recently suffered lead poisoning and had a long term round of antibiotic following her surgery, so I am pitching the eggs for a few months to be sure we (and nobody else) eat tainted eggs.

Can I ask what the cool pond does? I haven't taken her out to swim because she shows no interest in it since her attitude change.

I can pick her up, I can handle her, I can move her eggs for her, she is still very sweet with me. It's the rest of the family and our other pets that she is rotten to. So I guess that's a small blessing.

If I could convince my husband that we needed more houseducks, I might consider that!

I can think of a bunch of reasons not to do that also, but yes, it DOES sound like fun.
