Suddenly getting white eggs

Not using DE and she's just a little over a year old, laying a whopping 5 months so I'm not sure age is a factor, though it could be.

I'm leaning toward her having trouble laying on the last couple of layers of shell for some reason since they are so thin.

no idea. that is really odd. my blue egg layer is laying really pale eggs... look white unless I compare them to a WHITE egg... I wonder if her 'color sprayer' is broken?

I imagine little oopah loompah-like things in there with paint sprayers blasting the eggs as they roll by in the tubes.....

I know it's stange, but my girls must have a little oompah lompah issue going on too. The EE's were dark blue/green a month ago, now they are pale. One or two of my brown layers (think it's the GLW's) are giving me graduated eggs...really, the tops are almost white, and it gradually goes to a light-mid tan color! I've tried taking pic's, but it doesn't show well on the camera:( I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing something weird with egg colors this spring. And my girls won't be a year old for another month!

My eggs have been lighter and much fewer in the past two weeks. An above poster said something about shells and a Ding, ding ding went off in my head. Two weeks ago I bought a new bag of oyster shells-different than the kind I had before. I wonder if this is the culprit. I also noticed thinner shells. My EE is also laying lighter and ligher blue eggs. Hummmm

Ok, that light just popped on here too. My last bag of oyster shell had a moth ball like smell to it and it looked a little different, same brand I normally buy though. Hmmmmmm.... That might be the root of my shelless issue too that has been plaguing us for about 2 months.

Time to grind up the stock pile baked shells, serve and see if anything changes in the short term.

I am really happy to see this post. I thought I was going crazy. One of my Buff Orpington hens just started laying almost white eggs. Really weird because everyone (including her) has been laying brown eggs. My son's EE who was laying a beautiful olive colored eggs has started laying blue eggs. Besides the EE who we just recently bought and is now getting what we feed our chickens, no ones diet has changed. Not even oyster shells. Everything is exactly the same. This has really been confusing me.

i am no chicken geneticist however, just as a thought, do you have any idea of the lineage of the chicken? is it possible somewhere back in the day your line of NHR's has a little sprinkling of something with a white egg layer genetic?
