SUDDENLY LETHARGIC YOUNG SILKIE - ANTIBIOTIC QUESTION....HELP!!!

p.s. Boyd, feed is good, no mold. Just changed it and cleaned out the entire feeding area yesterday. New bag of organic feed from Modesto Milling that I just opened 10 days ago.

You are welcome...... I don't do anything special with my silkies other than feed and water them and love the all to pieces!!! They are all happy and healthy and well BROODY!!!

If you try to move her from the nest, does she get all puffed up and screech at you? Move her and see if she goes right back to her "nest". I don't know anything about Silkies but I do know I have many different breeds of chickens (and ducks) and almost all of them start laying at 4 months. I've read that it's because they freerange and freeranging chickens start to lay sooner. So, 4 months, in my opinion is not too young to start laying and if they can lay at 4 months, they can go broody at 4 months.

I put my broodies in a dog kennel so that they can sit on their nest in peace without others laying eggs in the nest when they get up or without the broody constantly switching nests. I put a little food and water dish in there with them. They then settle down and sit out the next 21 days undisturbed.

I have learned to move them at night or they will just keep going back to where their nest used to be. So it wouldn't hurt to move her to quiet quarters, put some fertile eggs under her and wait and see.
