Suddenly sleeping in nest box

It’s been dropping down to the 20s. I put clear plastic on the run to block the wind from that direction. So they shouldn’t be getting much wind.

I have the opposite problem. I'm worried about them overheating so the roosts are the same height as the windows. OK, hardware cloth openings on 3 sides. I'd rather have more than enough to keep them cool in the summer.

Our winters are a little milder than the ones in Washington State though.

I owe them a wind break on the north side. They will lose the picture window. The last hurricane blew too much rain into the coop and they rode it out under the coop on logs I put to keep them dry. Worked well. We lived.

All the roofs are on the same level. They have about 15 inches above their head for headroom. There is a lots of insulation, all the way around the top of the coop as well as a 1‘ x 8‘ strip on the top back wall of the coop. The window that is across from the roost on the end is a kind that opens from the bottom so it sticks out a little bit, wind and rain does not get into it. I guess I have a weekend project on my hands.

They should be ok. I have the same style of windows on my coop. I hung them on hinges on the outside of the coop and have hooks/chains to hold them open when it's nice out. There are hooks to hold them down when it's windy or rainy so they don't blow off. I never close them tight.
