Suet for winter quail?

I’ve seen posts on feeding chickens suet/lard/bacon grease during a cold snap, any thoughts on this?

During really cold days, I will give my birds some meal worms to give them an energy boost to stay warm. Those are fairly high in fat and protein. I don't know if the quail will eat the fats directly, but I guess you could try as long as it doesn't exceed 10% of their diet.
