I am thinking about getting a sugar glider and i know a little about them but can anyone tell me more? Cages, foods, behavior, and anything else

Check out You Tube - there is a video explaining EVERYTHING from how they behave, food, any problems they may have. I mean the video that shows the lady speaking and the SG peeing all over her arm.........

Go to glidercentral.net. Do not believe most of the stuff on the internet. There is a group called perfect pocket pets (ppp) that is spreading lies across the internet in the interest of selling their mill bred gliders. They have put up all sorts of videos, websites, and even a veterinary network that backs up their false and sometimes dangerous claims just to keep people in the dark.

Gliders will need fresh foods daily. Dry foods should be a very tiny part of the diet if used at all. Generally the only people that use them put them out as a small snack during the day and then feed a regular diet in the evening. They will need fresh fruits and vegetables with every diet. Some are more strict than others. Then a food mix which generally contains some nectar replacement like honey and protein like eggs or high protein wombaroo powder with other ingredients to balance the vitamins/minerals. I will repeat dry food cannot be the staple of their diet. They cannot survive on it. Gliders eat nectar, fruits, some vegetation, and insects in the wild. Their diet cannot be replicated in a dry food and it may cause physical harm to your glider to feed them too much dry food. The lists of tested diets can be found on glider central as well as http://www.sweet-sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider-diet-recipes.html which also sells the supplies for mixing these diets and some of their own recipes for fruit and veggie mixes that match the diets. Also check out suz's page for diet and other info http://www.suzsugargliders.com/. The main thing is you have to be there every evening to feed a glider. You cannot just give them some extra food when you are going somewhere and you have to buy their food from the store every few days to keep fresh fruits and veggies on hand. Personally I think everyone animal should have a diet of mostly fresh foods (my cats and dogs are on raw) so gliders are no different than feeding any other critter to me but for those used to just filling up a gravity feeder with a whole bunch of dry kibble or pellets it will be far more time consuming and complex than they are used to.

Gliders need a minimum cage of 2'x2'x3h' for a pair but that is the absolute minimum and many go much much bigger. We have a 6' high hexagon cage with 3' panels. I forget what the cubic feet came out to but that is more the average size people use for 2-4 gliders. We are building a 4'x8'x8'h cage in the spare bedroom for all 5 of ours.

Gliders will start out hating you unless you get some that are already very tame and then they will just start out not trusting you. You will get bit. You will get crabbed at. It may take months before they will let you handle them. If you buy from a mill breeder who has never handled their gliders it can take years to tame them. Buy from a good breeder and not a company or you can adopt and there are several places who can help you with that. Check out SPIN http://www.spin4suggies.com/Home_Page.html and http://www.sugargliderhelp.com/links/pages/ has links to breeders you can check out and millbreeders to avoid.

Start reading cause there is a lot contained in those few links and let me know if you have more detailed questions.
