Suggestions for Best Dust Bath for Chicks

Peet moss and local dirt.
Skip the ashes, DE and sand.
I have some old desiccated peat moss, should I rehydrate it some first? We were actually going to burn some wood in our little rocket stove today for ashes. Good to see a simple recipe. Our week old chicks are already dust bathing on their puppy pad. Super cute to see that and the scratching they do.

Skip the ashes. Dried peat moss is fine

Hello all!! My littles are a week old now and are starting to "dust" bathe in their aspen shavings. Should I get a little bit of dirt from where their run will be so they can get acclimated to the soil? They are on medicated feed, but have access to Corid, just in case.
Thank you(in advance).

I would, they'll love it! And they'll build up their immunity too

Thank you @FrostRanger! I'll give it a go!! Next worry is how many roos I ended up with. 😂
I love this! I go out and ask mine in a sweet voice "who's my roo?' If you watch they will start making themselves known. I have a couple who show up first, upright, and scout around. Also, one will show our tiny failure to thrive thriving chick a worm or treat. So thinking I found at least one.

I made the dust bath with peat moss I had for years sitting in greenhouse, our sandy soil, and DE. Let me tell ya, they were thrilled! The racket and chatter was adorable.
