Sulmtalers Thread

Pics
thanks! I've been searching for close up pics of roosters based on seeing some multicolored roosters in pics on this thread - or are most sulmtaler roosters wheaten?

The official european standards only recognize wheaton and white.
Apparently there can be some variation that pretty much normalizes at maturity.
Blue wheaton is a pretty new color but there's some out there.
I've got a red cockeral I'm watching how he matures.
There may be other colors pop up too to play with.
So new over here it's an adventure!

I posted pics of what I think might be a sulmtaler roo to go with the pullets I posted on this thread earlier.

Take a look, what do you think?

I would say that is a splash wheaten Sulmtaler. Not a mix breed, but a splash Sulmtaler! How exciting!!! We have blue wheatens showing up here in the USA and when you breed blue with blue you can get splash. If you facebook join the Sulmtaler facebook group the link is in my signature. You can post that pic there also and get more feedback. Some of the international members will enjoy seeing that beautiful splash color.

He is an interesting looking fellow.  My blue wheatens are laying and eggs cooking.  I'm sure some of them will be splash.

I cant wait to see what you get! Love it !!! All mine are regular wheaten, but who knows what I will get when they start laying, maybe some other colors are in their genetics also.

it will be quite a responsibility if he is a sulmtaler roo. I am going to cull excess roosters, but it would be terrible to cull him. I wonder if I should set up a breeding pen with him and the three pullets, or if that is something I shouldn't do because they are apparently siblings. Although I've had chickens for years, I've never kept roos. It would be nice to have a gentle roo.

thanks for the input!

Can you ask the breeder? If they are full siblings that would be pretty close - especially if full siblings out of closely related parents. Halvsies wouldn't be a bad thing tho - maybe out of differnt hens? Otherwise maybe get another hen and breed his daughters back to him, that would be fine.
