Sulmtalers Thread

Pics
I wanted o have them processed a couple of months ago. But now I have or wait until the first week of May. I think they are 6 months old.

I have Buckeyes from Chris McCathy, and his recomendation was to feed 27% protein feed or higher for best results. He has been selecting for meat characterisics and growth, as well as the sources he aquires stock from.

I would expect the SUlms to benefit from a similar feeding but from what I know so far, regular 18-20 % starter is the way to go.

What % protein feed does everyone use??

Any other methods like FF, or mealworms, garden scraps, etc

Free range or penned?

the color is called Salmon, while the Males phenotype may be that of a golden duckwing, but he is not Golden(S/s+) genotypically, his genotype would be that of a Red enhanced Silver Wheaten, just like Faverolles,

I don't know a lot, but this explains why the first time I saw them I thought of the Faverolles.

I need to go back and research this thread because I'm tempted to order some hatching eggs...first I need to know if they are big eaters and if they free range well. Apparently, they do okay in the heat since I found some in Arizona.

Interesting birds....

Quote: Thanks Marvin! Yes, I've heard all sorts of color descriptions including Silver Ginger & Ginger Duckwing. We should refer to this color as Salmon from this point forward.

I would be curios to hear your take on the "white" Sulmtaler as well but I don't have any so, I can't help with parentage info and or how it behaves in the breeding pen. Perhaps others can chime in?
