Sulmtalers Thread

Ooops, I hit submit too soon on the first batch, here are two more pictures of my two Sulmtaller girls. These lovely ladies hatched January and February 2012 - one is laying and the other should start soon.. Yippeee. Now I need to find me a nice roo. I currently have them in with my Crele Laced roos. I am planning to put some eggs in the bator on 7/25 just for a few fun mutts.

These are such an interesting breed. I'm in the process of moving and I think, as soon as I'm settled, I'm going to get some eggs from Widget Creek. Hopefully then will let me pick the eggs up. They are just a little more than 3 hours away and I'd drive that if it means that the eggs will have a better chance. They are so expensive.

In the mean time I'm following this thread with interest

I have hatched two rounds of Sulmtalers now... the oldest is at that age where I'm getting antsy about finding eggs. "Common! Lay already!" I'm horrible about remembering hatch dates, but I think they have another month to go.

I have a advantage over others, I have to admit... my mother is German and I can have info translated for me. I can't wait to taste these birds... I have far too many roosters so I'll find out sooner than later. Really soon for the first batch. I also have two blue wheatens... seriously considering keeping them in a seperate flock and working on two lines... One blue and one standard.

I am interested in hearing if anyone has any extra females around the Southeast that they are willing to sell or trade for. I know that is a long shot, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Hi,

Yep, still have not found a rooster. Waiting til the weather cools a little to have one shipped. I considered selling these girls, but I like em too much. Super sweet birds.

I'm so excited to join in this thread. I just hatched 14 of 18 sulmtaler eggs that I got from Widget Creek Ranch and am just thrilled with my little peeps. I can't wait to watch them grow up!

Nice looking chickens those Sulmtalers. I am new to rare breeds but not to chickens. Where would one get Sulmtaler eggs of chicks?

Wow!! That is a great hatch! I hatched 6 out of 12 at about the same time. It was my first hatch ever, I know, why didn't I start with something else?...My mistake. We went on vacation when they were 3 days old and only 2 are left (another rookie mistake), but they are healthy and doing well! I feel so bad about the ones that didn't make it.
