Does anyone have any? I got one as an extra. She is the sweetest little hen. I haven't seen anyone talking about them. Would like to know if they good layers or go broody. Mine hasn't started laying yet. Thanks for any information.

I have a pair of bantam Sultans. The hen is sweet but fairly shy and flighty, I think because of the head feathering (she can't see anything approaching so she is jumpy). The male on the other hand is awful. He is also flighty but very aggressive too. My other roosters are all fine with me, but the Sultan attacks anyone and anything. He starts fights with the standards through the fence. He lived with them before everyone grew up, but he would start fights and then lose, so the Sultans live by themselves.

They are notoriously poor layers, laying fewer than 90 eggs a year. They are also very seasonal layers. I got an egg every two days or so for a couple of weeks, and then haven't had another since August. They also rarely go broody, and are therefore hard to breed. I believe their high strung nature is part of the problem.

Thanks Cara. The hen I have is leary of the other chickens. Kinda stays to herself. She is sweet with people. Now I know not to get a roo.
