Does anyone else raise sultans? I currently have two 10 month old white bantam pullets, one just started to lay. I had a trio, but the roo died last June. So last night at 10:30 I bought 6+ white bantam sultan eggs! The roo pictured was an exellent example of the breed. He looked like a snow angel! I am sooooooo excited! I am going to put one roo in with my hens, and then keep another roo and the the hens in another pen, so I will have two breeding pens! And if there is an extra roo, I will sell him on eggbid! They are such beautiful birds, I love them! I was wondering, I know sultans are rare, but how rare? What is the estiated of all purebred sultans in the U.S.? Also when I get my eggs, what should I first do to maximize hatching rate? How many eggs do you get from your sultans? I get one every other day. Any problems you have with sultans? My hens are missing some toenails, what does that mean? I plan on showing her twice in March. What type of pens do yours have? Mine share a pen currently with a cochin roo. It is a large dog house [about 3'x2'] and a 6'x3' run. Thanks!

Really! I emailed them and asked them to send pic of their sultans. At least I know I have the right to be mad. Wasn't that pic beautiful?!

yes u do have a right to be mad, i'd be furious!! that's why when i post auctions ect. for eggs i put in it these are actual pics of some of the birds your eggs come from or pics of my flock i've personally taken.

it's one thing for like a dvd or something to list useing a stock photo but these are live babies that are hatching from eggs we buy or sell. people need to know what they are truely buying and if u don't have pics of the breeders or some of them to go off of then you honestly don't know what you are buying and that's just unethical to me. it's plain and simple stealing someone elses hard work just to make a quick $ of of ur pets and it's not right.

yes it was a gorgous roo and i had the same thoughts u did. have they answered u back yet? what did they say?

They said they were really sorry and sent two pics. I haven't got to see them yet because my computer is dumb and I have to wait till I go to the library computers. But the weather is bad today so I have to wait till tommorow.

I have two sultans, a male and female. They have missing toenails also, but I figured it was because they are hatchery stock. The male has redish markings showing up on the feathers of his back and wings.

Actually, the missing toenails is from them having gunk stuck in feet feathers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this happened to mine.

I have banty Sultans. Some of mine are missing nails too but someone told me that the guineas I kept with them for a while probably ate their nails. I got some more Sultans and some of them have two nails on one toe. I am hoping that is from inbreeding and I will be able to breed that out by mixing with the bloodline I already had. Sultans are very rare. I took some to 2 fairly large shows and the judges at both shows had never seen Sultans. One asked me what the standard was for them and the other had to get his book out to see what the standard was. One told me he had been a judge for 5 years and he had never seen Sultans at a show. I love rare animals.
