Sumatra Thread!

I'm not calling this a sumatra yet so lets dont go down that road. But he is the result of the bb red sumatra work. Getting there but still needs some work to finish it up.

Just reposting it for those who asked to see it

Tail still needs some work to get the phoenix influence out and get rid of the lobe color

Plan to use this bird this year to start a gold duckwing sumatra project. He has no sumatra in him, but already has some shape to him, so he should be a good candidate

Young pair of blue Sumatras I just got this week. Large fowl. The father of them was a white sumatra, the mother was a blue. Which is why the male has the red in his wattles, the whites have red faces. Hopefully I can get a few dark faced whites if I breed these 2 together.

Are my birds show quality?

I got them for $40 from Doug Akers.

I named the rooster Gunther, and the the hen Inga. My rooster has a red comb because he's been inside. Also, there are tired (It was night) so the tail posture might be the best.

Oh, they're bantams!

Look good. I'm assuming male's tail will grow a little more and you're right about being inside. Once he gets outside he should darken up quite a bit. Is that brassy color because of flash on back in pic 2? That would be a reason for concern. Female could look a little more "active." She isn't going to do well at a show unless she holds her tail parallel.

Thanks for helping me out. I think that the brassiness is a trick of the light. I almost saw it myself, and I was a bit freaked out, but when I searched through his feathers, they were all stark black.
