I will get better photos of the new rooster, but this gives you guys some idea of what the he looks like. He came from James Smith, he is a cockerel I think he is about a year old or younger I forgot what he had said about his age. What do you guys think of him so far? I understand if the photos don't look right but I will try to take better photos.
I had ordered 5 mixed "rare breeds" from Meyer this summer, but a coon got in our garage and killed them all. DH is feeling guilty about it so told me I could order 5 "pet" chickens for this spring. I already have an EE, 3 RIR, 2 barred rocks, and 2 white rocks, the poorest layers will probably become dinner at the end of summer to make room for the new babies. (I say some, but we all know how chicken math works.)
So... since these are to be babies pets and not really production birds necessarily I picked 5 pretty ones (plus a "meal maker", LOL). One of the ones I am getting is a black sumatra (loved how they don't look like your typical chicken) so want to know all about them prior to (and it's like 6 long months before they arrive, so...)

Since you have so long before they come, I would recommend reading this thread from the start. There's pictures and great information all through it.
I need somebody with genetics knowledge to help me with my khaki project. I have the khakis but I'd like to darken their faces and combs as many of them turn out red rather than mulberry. I worked with a sumatra breeder who took a pair of my khaki and bred to his blacks and I now have the dun (chocolate colored) trio here with me off that breeding. If I cross the khaki with the dun what will the offspring be? Is it 50/50 or will I get black, dun and khaki?
Khaki Dun and Black breed the same as the blue variations. Blue and Dun are equivalent and splash/khaki are equivalents. Dun + Khaki = 1/2 Dun, 1/2 Khaki
