10' X 10' concrete block chicken house with momma hen, baby, 2 other hens and rooster. Momma and baby in cage on floor and others roost about 3 feet up. Plenty of windows on south side and soffit vents on north and south, screened/wire door which I leave open. I feel that I need a fan in the house just to move air around. I generally aim it about 5 feet up or down to encourage the hot air upward flow. Is this too much for chickens and a draft? And now there is chickie to consider. I don't aim it on them but I can feel air moving around in the house because it "bounces" off the back wall. Thanks for your feedback, Leslie

There is no such a thing as a draft in the heat we are having. Keep that air circulating. I use a small fan in a high window drawing air out. You could do something like that if you don't want the air moving directly on them but i don't think it is a problem. Good Luck

I have had to install 2 fans in my silkie chalet!!! It has been so hot that I lost 14 chicks. They are big enough to be out of the brooder, but I guess it was so hot with not enough air circulation for them. Everything has been ok since I put the fans in, but I still have a red 85 watt bulb in with the smaller chicks. That way, if they feel a draft they can get under the light. Had to install misters also. The heat has just been terrible!!
