In the Brooder

I’m using a Brinsea Eco-glow brooder plate instead of a heat lamp. My garage is around 87 degrees in this heat wave we’re having. The chicks are two weeks old. Would you turn off the brooder plate in this heat or just let it be. I know they like to go there for safety but I worry about over heating. Any ideas?

If you're worried about overheating, you could move the plate to a far corner of the brooder so the chicks can get away from it if they're hot. I'd just turn it off during the hotter hours and turn it on from twilight to early morning. If you have a smart light switch (the app and tech) you can program it. Since it's a plate, I don't think they'd be too hot unless they were under it.

Thanks. The brooder is large and well ventilated so they can easily move away from the brooder plate. I just know they go to it for safety. I’m sure I’m just over-thinking it. I’ve always brooded in the spring and fall and haven’t ever done it when it’s this hot outside.

Is it that temp constantly? Day and night?

if anything leave the brooder plate on and they can decide to go to it or not.

It gets a bit warmer in the afternoon. It seems to be consistently between 85-90. We’re having a heatwave here. The brooder is large and well ventilated but they go to the brooder I think as much to feel safe as for warmth.
