sun or shade for my duck pen

I am building a pen for my SQ bantam ducks. Would you suggest putting the pen out in the sun but also provide a decent shade. Or just put the pen in the woods with all shade? Do you think the sun would help with molting since they are show ducks? Or will this mess their color up? I am also going to provide some bathing water for them.

Either way would probably work. If under the trees... would it turn into a bad mud pit without sunlight?
