Maplewing stopped at a large spruce tree. The ground below it seemed to dip, creating a surprisingly large hollow beneath the tree's bristling needles. It was nicely sheltered from the rain, and yet sunlight could still spill through the entrance. "Emberstar?" Maplewing called into the hollow.

A little black and brown hen stepped towards he entrance. She was still small, given that she was a game bantam, but she was strong and dignified. Her golden gaze rested upon Rowan. "You wish to join RavenFlock, I take it?"

A small flicker of surprise flashed across Rowan's eyes at his directness. Her father would never have asked so quickly if an outsider wanted to join them, having just wandered onto their territory. After a moment's hesitation, she replied, "Yes, I do."
