Sunflower Cottage is almost done!!

We’ve been working on our new coop, “Sunflower Cottage”, for months (he only has weekends) and it’s almost ready. We’ve been designing it as we go along and it is so beautiful! Although we live in FL, I’m a New England girl it’s got a Cape Cod feeling to it. It is well ventilated and has an enormous run for our girls.
We have been letting our 7 week old chicks hang out in it when we are outside. It will be ready for them to move on next weekend. The older ladies will stay in their coop (right next to it) for another week. They have been out in the yard, with the babies in the dog’s pen and they didn’t real seem to care.

It has 4 large screened ventilation openings on all four sides and a screened window. The are ventilation soffits around the the roof edge. It is also under a large live oak tree, so it’s in the shade all day long. We are going to put a misting system in the run when it’s done.

Very pretty! If more ventilation is necessary to deal with your climate, obvious place to add it would be the interior wall facing into the run as the roof overhang will provide a lot of protection.

There is ventilation on each side of the coop, plus a window that can be opened.

Bo is always with the chickens when he’s outside. When we had the chicks in the house he would always check on them especially if they were chirping. They’d climb all over him! He’s a wonderful dog
