Sunflower seeds

I've heard that black oil sunflower seeds are great for chickens? Is this true and how old do they have to be to have them? Mine are about 12 weeks old now.
What about ducks and guineas? Can ducks even have seeds of any sort?
Does anyone know if ducks can eat scratch grains? Sorry for so many questions in one shebang!

Do they have to be shelled? I have a huge bag in the shell, can I use those?

Yes, that is what I was told. Apparently, they have a lot of good oils in it to help feathers and laying. I just want conformation from the BYC'ers because they always help so much.

i use them as treats only, but they love them! I give them in the shell. Boy they come a runnin when they see the bag!
