Beautiful Lake Waccamaw

cmcgoun, Lake Waccamaw is one of the Carolina Bays, like White Lake, Jones Lake and Singletary Lake. The bottom is very sandy, almost like beach sand. It is not as clear as White Lake and has a Coke cola coloring to it. It has a limestone bottom which make the water have a neutral balance. We are a lot like Florida with spanish moss, alligators and swamps. I believe the lake is about 8,000 acres and is quite shallow. The deepest it get's is about 12-14 feet. The lake is owned by the state. Besides the lake the state park has about 2,000 acres of land that consist of hiking trails, picnic areas and a large pier. Their are 2 access areas for the public to launch their boats. We are a small town though, we have 1 grocery store, a great seafood restaurant ( it was in Southern Living magazine a few years back), 2 gas stations and a little buffet and burger place and thats about it. There are no motels but there are rental houses and a B&B. We have white perch, bass, bream, cat fish, crappy etc. The other day my DHubby and I caught 60 white perch. Hope this helps. If you want to know more you can PM me. I maybe should have PMed you this as it got a little long. On topic though, we do have beautiful sunsets almost every night.
