Sunshine and Cornish X

If you start them early enough that they will be processed before the heat of the summer, maybe it won't even be an issue. I have no intention of running mine in the heat of the summer, but then it gets much hotter down here where I am.

ETA
My batch will be a one time deal in the spring, but I have a friend who is running a bunch, but only during spring and fall in order to avoid the worst of the heat.

Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay :

Get your self a $5 blue tarp and a $10 box fan from Wal-Mart. Use them to keep your birds comfortable and cool.

I reckon you are talking battery operated. I have this mental picture of power cords snaking over 4.5 acres.

My thoughts exactly...

They don't need the sun, no. However sometimes they do benefit from it, especially on cold days and in the mornings. Make sure you have good ventilation for that tarp.

Thanks Jeff, I really value your opinion.
I have plenty of metal roofing in an old Fox House back in my woods so I will use some of that on top instead.

I do the same as Brunty, 2/3 covered tractors. It gives them the option if they want. You'll find they will seek shade when it gets too hot. Sunning themselves gives them free Vitamin D, and in it's best form. I don't raise Cornishes from late June-August, just too hot.
