I have a 12 day old Silver Lakenvelder that is proving all of the guide books and websites wrong! Most say that the lakenvelders are flighty, nervous, and tend to avoid human contact. Not this little one... he/she will jump up on the food jar as soon as I walk in the bathroom where the brooder is, and he/she simply cannot wait for me to get the hardware cloth pulled off far enough. Little chick tap dances all over the top of the jar until I put my hand down there and then he/she immediately jumps into my hand and tries to waddle up my arm as fast as she can! Haha!

I'm a new chicken Mama, so I'm easily entertained over probably the simplest of things.

Our other three little chicks (EE, BR, and Australorp) will cock their heads curiously, trying to see what all the excitement is about. They end up curious, but a bit cautious. I catch them meandering over to my hand to see what they're missing. They walk away puzzled every time. Haha!

Love these little fuzzies already! And this particular little one is quite a character!

Aaawwww, enjoy her personality, she sounds like a lovely chick! I don't know what a Lakenvelder is, can you post a picture of your baby?

Here she is.... at 10 days old or so. When she's grown, I think she should feather out to mostly white with a black head and black tail.
