I was going to suggest something like that, but I took another look at the pictures, and noticed this:

the nesting boxes are 2/3's as tall as the door, so if we had the roost as high as the top of the door,

the ventilation would be blowing directly on the hens. It was a nice idea.

Plug the bottom holes, or all of them ... and make new ones at the very top ...

yes! Just one egg, but nestled in the soft bedding of the larger pink plastic container! I checked in the morning before I went to work.... no egg! But in the evening it was there! So I'm thinking she laid it later in the morning once the sub was fully up. I checked this morning also and no eggs today so I'll have my kids check when they get home from school in the afternoon (rather than wait til evening when I get home from work). This all makes me think supplemental lighting will be more important for our girls even though others here have said they don't use it
