I recently hatched out some bantam eggs and, since my incubator's on the fritz, the hatch didn't go so well. I only got 3 bantam babies, one that I had to help out of its shell. They have lived with their LF brothers and sisters since day 1. One of the babies (not the one I helped out) died after about a week. The other two are extremely tiny. They are now 5 weeks old and are smaller than my 1 week old Light Brahmas.
I am not sure what breed they are, but there is a lot of bantam blood in there. Their father was a bantam Cochin crossed with a bantam mutt (OEGB X LF of some sort). Their mother was either a bantam Cochin or a Mille Fleur D'Uccle.
The babies both look like mottled Cochins.
I'm worried that they've been getting pushed out of the food trough by their larger siblings and so have been undernourished. It could also be a result of the wonky incubator. I will get comparison photos soon. I have put them in with the 1 week olds in the hopes that they'll get a chance to be the "big kids" and get their fair share of food.
I've had bantams before, but never had any problems like this! Is there anything else that I should do for these babies? Anyone have any experiences like this?
