I ordered 25 chicks from Miller Hatcheries in Alberta and they were shipped to me by mail. I received 26 in total and they are ALL doing great....however one of the little pullets has barely grown and is not feathering out very quickly at all. They are about 4 weeks old now and most of the youngins have most of their feathers, just a bit of fuzz here and there. Except Tiny. She is still mostly fuzz with the exception of wing feathers and she is about the same size as when everyone was about 4-5 days old.

Does anybody know what might be going on? I don't think Miller has bantams so I figured that can't be it.
She doesn't seem to be getting picked on (yet) and is eating and drinking fine but my husband figures we should kill her. He figures they will if we don't, and they won't be kind about it.
She seems to be doing fine, just not growing or feathering very fast. ANY SUGGESTIONS would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jen

Don't Cull her she is more then likely the runt we all get them from hatcherys so give her a few more weeks she may have been a true day old chick it does happen from time to time but I would guess she is just the runt and if they are all raised togther they won't bother her she will just be at the very bottom of the pecking order is all.
I had one that I thought would never get big enough and one day it hit a growth spurt and now except for the weight difference he/she is just as tall as the rest now at 87 weeks it looks just the same as the others do and they never messed with it. I belive whenb they are in the brooder they make up the pecking order so eveyone knows there place so she will be safe from the others if they had not killed it by now they won't kill it at all.
As for the 26th one they are called Packing peanuts it will more then likely be a roo unless it is of the same breed then they sent it along because of the runt in case it did die you would still have 25.

Good luck to you and your chicks
