Not sure if I'm in the right place, but here it goes. I have a Australorp/Black Star mixed hen that has been acting very odd the last few months. I posted about her back in April.
Symptoms were, walking slowly, diarrhea, not eating as much as usual. I was so worried that I took her to the vet. $114 later and a antibiotic script (she only had one dose) to find out she's perfectly healthy, MAYBE has a stomach bug so prescribed antibiotics. Here's were it gets weird. My daughter and her dog were living with us for about 4 years when she moved out mid March. During this time my hen and the dog formed a bond. They ate snacks together, would follow each other. It was cute. My hen started to act the way I described after coming up to the deck and inside where her and the dog would hang out. Of course, the dog was gone. Then a few days after the vet visit, my daughter brought her dog to visit. Vola! Instant cure! She was back to her self, eating, diarrhea cleared up, still walked slower but all in all, fine. Fast forward to last night. Some exact symptoms, she was free ranging and the went in the coop only minutes after being let out and went into a nesting box and just laid there. This was at dusk. I was of course worried so I brought her inside the house to monitor her. Again, minutes after coming inside she was her same perky self. Even walking normally. Her diarrhea cleared up too. So I have to ask what the heck is going on? Is she depressed? Making herself sick to cone inside? I'm just throwing stuff out there because we are completely baffled.
