Hello Everyone, Lately I've been discovering sticky/dirty eggs when I've gone to collect the eggs from one of the groups of my chickens. The eggs are covered in egg yolk and egg white. I thought maybe one of the eggs had cracked. When I clean the eggs off, none are cracked. There's no egg shell nor egg sack. Could the chickens be eating the egg shell of one of the eggs? Thank you.

Yes, the chickens are likely eating the broken egg and leaving the rest. A broken egg is too tasty to resist!

You may have a hen that is laying thin-shelled eggs. Make sure your hens are getting sufficient calcium via layer feed and crushed oyster shell offered free choice.

This has happened to me, a few times. And I know I don't have an egg eater because on the days it happens, I get 7 normal eggs from 7 girls. I do know that chickens will eat the shell as well as the contents so maybe that's what's happening for you. Try gathering eggs a few times a day, to limit how long they are sitting in the nest boxes
