i use starter crumble but, i had 4 or 5 ducklings develop limps out of my first wave if ducklings this spring. i'm trying vitamin b in the water this time around.
I've raised 3 batches of ducklings on layer crumbles and had no problems at all! i don't know why you all are saying its not OK. all mine are fine.
I'm just going by what Dave Holderread wrote in Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks:
"Warning: Because of the high calcium levels of laying feeds, they should never be used for growing birds. More than 1.5 percent calcium in the diet of nonlaying birds can cause permanent damage to organs and the skeleton, or even death." pg 221
I am no expert but Dave Holderread is so I go by what he knows. I'm sure that many people feed layer rations to ducklings but to me it would not be worth the risk.
I've read that book twice and i don't remember that... but OK.... i think im going to feed mine differently this year.... Thank you!
