Supplementing protein during winter (Southern NH)

My source would honestly be just old farmer lore. From what Guy posted it seems everyone feeds 180 out from what they should. Except the part of throwing more scratch.

More calories is more fat if your not doing anything. Like I said we don't sit around sitting outside trying to stay warm. Animals do.

Anyone have a calorie count on the different % feeds?

If more protein will make me thinner & buff me up im all for it. Lol.
 
I wonder if this misconception of lesser protein feed in summer & higher in winter may be due to the availability of bugs? Bugs are high protein and like my parents did yrs ago we didn't even have a run. Totally free-range.
Then the amount of time or if a person even can allow their birds to free-range would play a part on the available protein especially in summer.
