Hi Amy-You're welcome. I cut the grass maybe 3 times before chopping up the whole thing. I didn't buy a tray and I don't use a growing medium. I just re-use one of those plastic containers that fruit/veggies come in from Trader Joes (or similar) that has small drain holes. After I have gotten them sprouting in my sprouter- I transfer them into that and by then the roots are tangled together so it creates a tight mesh that keeps the seeds from going out the drain holes when I rinse- then put the whole thing on a pie plate to drain. By not using a growing medium- they can eat the whole plant and I don't have to deal with soil. They grow amazingly fast and strong on just water.
