Supposed to be pure breed Ameraucana.

I see a little bit of fluffy cheeks too. But that comb is strange.

Since the seller was very sure that it was a purebred Ameraucana, what color did he say it was? A good breeder should be able to tell you that.

And, yes, if that is some sort of pea comb, it's probably a cockerel, especially with that color leakage.

It's weird how combs come out sometimes. But the red on the neck is correct for a brown-red Ameraucana, (even a hen) although the comb is not. Check this modified pea comb out--I had to ask the genetics folks here at BYC what was up with this one:

What does a regular pea comb look like? When I google it there are so many different ones. I now know one of them is a rooster. I heard a very pathetic crow several times but not when I was looking. I have other Marans that are female and their combs are bigger. It was the tail and posturing that had me wondering.

I have got some eggs from a couple people but I don't know which hatched. Any ideas? The possiblities are Black Marans, Buff Orpington, Blue marans cross Buff Orpington or Rhode Island Red. I checked their feathers, they all appear to be female. The medium one hatched with a huge comb but clearly has two different length rows of feathers. The largest has feathers on it's feet but is not dark, so I was thinking blue marans cross. I thought the medium one was RIR until day three when the dark feathers matching the large chick, even the same wing defect but no feathers. The little one, BO.

I saw that when I googled it but I thought my chickens looks simular. It like three single combs lined up next to each other. And as of today I know he, the black one, is a rooster. Caught him crowing. 6 weeks old. I am still hoping the SPlash Marans is not a rooster but I'm pretty sure it is.
