Hi, Dak. The first thing to note is that I'll be passing on to you a good deal that I have gleaned from El Interneto. For example, I've seen a couple of maps of the areas in Oz that emus inhabit it's most everywhere.
So, now I get to sound like some sort of tourist bureau: Oz has enormous amounts of snow (winter only) on the mainland it's just 'tucked away' on the top of a mountain range that we don't use. The highest mountain in this range is 7,000 feet. Emus live, at least, on the periphery of these. Moreover, emus lived in Tasmania. Check the map. Tasmania is purty darn cold in winter not Canada, but snow in plenty of places.
We think it's pretty cold here in the Gully but that's by Oz standards. Technically, we're temperate. I've been amazed to see my emus sitting complacently on the ground, undercarriages tucked up, scratchin' their arses with their beaks, in pouring mid-winter rain.
Conversely, emus live in some purty darn hot environments.
