Surge protection

Ours is only because I have two incubators, so hubby put the surge protector power strip up on the wall for me.

It might not be a bad idea if you're in an area that gets power spikes. I don't see how it would help with temp control though.

We get power spikes. The two new Govee thermometers , blue toothed to my phone, have shown a big jump in temp on two different incubators. One is a little giant with digital control and one is a hovobator with wafer control. I can look at the app and see the temp swings. Both happened at the same time at night.

I think what you're thinking of is a UPS (universal power supply). Those get pricey but are also surge protectors and pick up the power when it is either off or too low. I have one for my computer as I am a transcriptionist and can't lose what I've typed. Mine's a smaller one and gives me full power for about 15 minutes if the power goes out.

This is the one I have.

For a power outage while I was incubating, we have a generator.

Power spikes last for very short periods of time (milliseconds) and can damage sensitive electronics. So, it might fry your incubator but it won't cause the temperature to change. Spikes don't last long enough to contribute significantly to the power consumption of the heater in the incubator.
