Surprise for me!

I was doing a thorough clean-out of my inside birds today and looky what I found in the box in my MALE coturnix cage:

Guess I was assuming that the person who gave "him" to me knew what they were talking about! So now I need to find her a partner! I assumed what I heard was the quail equivalent of a crow. NOT! Joke's on me I guess! Terri O

I am horrible at math and dim witted to top it all off but

i think i counted 10 eggs in there...

for that to be a surprise means you didn't check on your quail for 10 days?

just curious...

LOL--no you are right! I only feed and water 2x daily...but assuming that this quail was a male I never thought to look in his(her) hidey box for eggs! I do a big cleanout every two weeks and that is when I found the eggs.

The box that she had in there was just a cat food can (I think 12 pack) box on it's side with half taped closed. I only got her 2 1/2 weeks ago and that is what she came with. Now she has a bowl with corn cob and hay in it. If she decides not to lay the eggs in there I will make another box for her to go into. I think I should make a place where she can go broody so she stops laying so many eggs! T
