Surprise Mallard Duck nesting with eggs in my yard

I live in Oxnard harbor area in California and just found a nest with 6 eggs between two trees and under a large plant. I had no idea the duck was there and spooked her, then found the nest while watering. The weird thing is that my house exterior and roof are going through renovations, so I have had 4 crews of guys marching right past this area for over a month, super loud, but obviously quiet at night. The big problem is that I need to have the fence behind her nest painted with everything else, but now will have to wait. I have no idea how long she has been there, but it is amazing she chose this spot with all the chaos! I have alerted the painters to stay away, but we will see.. Any suggestions other than to leave her alone?

Sadly, my painter just informed me that the duck was half eaten and the eggs are gone! I heard a scuffle last night, but couldn't see..was it the possum or raccoon or ?? mother nature is brutal..
