We have chickens, but decided against ducks because we didnt want to foul our pond and there's too many bold foxes around here...but we woke up yesterday morning to the sound of a mama Mallard and six newborns splashing around. We must have walked around that pond 100 times this spring, and never saw the nest! A fox made an appearance three times yesterday at the edge of the pond.

I made a quick "Safety Island" for them by securing a grapevine wreath to two pool noodles, a plywoood insert, and some straw and pond plants with the roots stuck through the grapevine into the pond, held in place with a rope and a concrete block. Yankee Ingenuity on a half cup of coffee...
