Well, imagine my surprise when I went out in the middle of a storm yesterday morning and found a little chick under one of our broody hens.
We have 2 Black-tailed Japs, and they went broody last month. They gave up about a week ago, when our 2 Bantry hens took over the nest boxes and kept incubating the same eggs. Since these broodys had only been at it a week or so, I didn't think there would be any chicks. I just let them brood to encourage that behavior.
I do not know the lineage of the chick. I have a very young Welsummer Cockrel in with these hens.
But, ain't it cute!!
