I went to an auction yesterday with my cousin in Lancaster PA and up comes the Tragopan I was completely surprised! If I wouldn't have bid against someone it would have sold for $60, boy would I have felt bad for the seller!! I got it for $125, It is an '09 male and starting to get it's color. Now all I need it to get some females. I know a few people who breed them, but I will wait til we get the pen built. It was funny cause after I bought it everyone kept coming over to ask me what it was or if I had a hen for it. My reply was well you have to start somewhere!!

Wow, that's a neat looking pheasant.

Ok when you start selling eggs , you really need to get ahold of me ... Those birds are amazing .. I have been looking at Pheasants and couldnt decide what kind to get but wow I have to have some of these...

I will as soon as I get him moved outside. Right now he is in the coal room of my basement where it is dark. I can't get a good picture.

Too dark and he will not eat or drink. You could starve or dehydrate him.

You have the proper diet (food) for it ?

It is light it has a window and lights, but not bright enough for the digital camera. He will only be in there till at least tomorrow. We are moving birds around to get him a pen. We feed that buckeye Big four with a little bit of scratch mixed in to our other pheasants/Peafowl so he will get the same. Plus I heard they like some fresh greens. He is eating and drinking.
edited because the wife doesn't know what she is talking about at time, but I still love her.
