My favorite place in Washington is Kalaloch Beach. It is the most spiritual place I have ever known, and the only place I would consider to scatter my daughter's ashes on. The only thing at the beach is a small resort, a large National Parks campground, and a ranger station. It is as about as remote as you can get in Western Washington.
I must say that having spent my childhood on an Island in Puget Sound, that if I could live by the beach I would be as content as a person ever could be. But I don't mind living 1 mile from the Cascade Mountains, or knowing that there is an active Volcano roughly 20 miles from my house.
The nearest mountain is just across the street from the sub-division that I live in it is less than a 1/4 mile from my house. There was a volcanic eruption back in January of 1899 that was only 1 mile from my house. I am hoping that there will be some earthquakes, before any of the hills around me erupts again. I can see the actual spot where the eruption was from my back yard.
