Quote: (AGH! You're gonna kill me!!! D: Seriously, I'ma die of curiosity. Curiosity killed the cat, or, in this case, the nosey RPer...)

Dixie felt a persisting feeling that said he wasn't speaking the truth and she looked at him, studying his emotions for clues. But he was doing a fine job of hiding his lie, if he really was lying, which she was pained to think of him doing such a thing with her, after all they'd been through. After all, he could trust her... Couldn't he? Once more, she felt guilty about the whole picking sides with Teal incident and felt bad... Very bad.

(( D: Don't worry, it isn't too big! Just something to help with Mystery's state of mind once I get going on my plans for Minty. ;) ))

Mystery watched her expression change, feeling a bit guilty himself. That familiar face he had seen... He couldn't have them knowing that he had a family now. He knew Dixie would feel bad that he couldn't tell her, but... It wasn't worth the risk of her trying to do something. He finally was happy, and this could ruin it all. He had to pull away, distance himself from those he loved--but just for now.

A sick feeling crawled through his stomach as he walked, trying not to look Dixie's way again. He felt cold as he rounded the fence to the junkyard and headed toward the dens. "Saffron!" he barked, hoping the medical dog would hear.

Dixie watched him go and her tail wagged just slightly and a small whimper escaped her maw, followed by a smaller one. Finally, she sat down, looking at her paws. Could it be true? Did he really distrust her, even after she had admitted that she felt bad about siding with that blue eyed wretch? It looked that way...

... Suddenly she was tackled to the ground by two balls of soft, fluffy fur. Giggles and squeals sounded from the two "attackers" and she chuckled as she realized that they were Raven and Jade. "Hello, my dears," she said, getting up and shaking off. "How was your day?" she added, looking down at them.

"Not good!" Jade said in a whiny voice. "Unka Ji'Ken let us outside to play, but then Waven and Minty ran off and it's all their fault, 'cause now we have to go inside!" he added, looking accusingly at his sister, who ducked her head in embarrassment.

"Sowwy, Mommy," she mumbled.

"Oh, dear, it sounds like poor old Jiyaken had quite some trouble with you guys," Dixie said, though her voice was still merry and happy. Suddenly, Dixie noticed Jade, whom had just discovered the she-dog.

"Mommy, who's this?" Jade cried out, running in circles around the she-dog and never scooting too close. Dixie just smiled at him.

(Speaking of Jiyaken, I met an Irish Wolfhound sorta like him. The dog was HUGE! OMG, it's back stood, like, three feet off the ground. He was the biggest pup in the litter, his owner said. He was full grown when we saw him.)

Quote: Harli snapped awake, leaving her pups and rushing over. Her eyes grew wide, seeing the young male and his pup. "Jargo! Who is this?!" she cried, just staring.
The tiny pup mewled weakly, her voice small and raspy. She was obviously malnourished, because her tiny ribs stuck out in plain view. The same was with the father.
Harli's instincts took over, and at once she picked up the pup and took it to her nest. She tucked it under her fur, looking at Jargo with a horrified expression. "What do you think happened to them?" she asked, her voice trembling. She looked at the male dog's wounds, deep and fresh, wondering what on earth could have caused them.
"I don't know who this is... I don't know what happened..." Jargo replied quietly. He lowered his nose towards the dog's face and crooned, "Helloo?"
The male dog's eye lids opened, then his silver eyes focused on Jargo. His pupils dilated in shock. "Who are you?!" he croaked, letting his ears fall back.
"I'm Jargo," Jargo replied calmly. "Who are you?" he added, his teeth slightly bared. He clearly protected his home and mate.
The gray dog hesitated, clearly afraid of revealing who he was. Finally, he lowered his head and mumbled, "My name is Smoke."
Jargo's upper lips curled fully and he lunged at the dog, snarling with rage. "I'll kill this mutt!" he roared. "Son of that Willow Pack mutt!"
Harli's voice rang loud and sharp from the den. "Jargo! Stop! He's injured. We might be able to get things out of 'im." she glared angrily at Smoke, who only returned a helpless gaze. "Drag him to the back and feed him." she said, hoping Jargo wouldn't get mad at her orders.
Jargo snarled at her. "Don't forget that I'M the dominant on, here!" he snarled to her. He still hadn't let go of his deep seated hatred for Rex. And his arrogance. He dragged Smoke by the scruff into the den. "We have no food," he said to Harli. "Now what's your brilliant plan?" he added with a hint of sarcasm. He was grumpy because he was tired.
Harli nodded, looking down at the pups suckling at her belly. She let her ears droop, clearly telling Jargo that she wasn't going to say any more. Smoke whined slightly as he felt Jargo's teeth pierce his thin pelt, then looked up at him at him timidly. "Jargo... sir... I... um.... I don't know if this will make it better, but Abbie was the mother of that pup." he motioned with his torn nose to Harli's nest. "Sir.. and ma'm, I'll do anything to keep her safe. I'd even take a bite to the throat, just please... I want her to live."

(EE, sorry! I missed your post!)

Jargo glowered down at the dog and looked at Harli, wondering what she would do. He knew she could raise the pup, but what should he do about his second worst enemy's son? "Shut up," he snarled to the dog, who's speaking had been drowned out by Jargo's thoughts.

(No prob.! :)

Smoke fell silent, looking up at Jargo with his watery silver eyes. Harli looked over at her adopted daughter's father. He was so young, just barely over a year, and already knew the pain of loosing his mate. She tore her gaze away from his battered body, then began to speak. "Smoke, what happened?" she asked, her voice low and gentle. Smoke drooped his ears, looking up at Jargo for permission to speak.

Harli woke several times during the next hour, feeding and washing her brand new pups. Then, unable to fight her exhaustion, slipped into a very deep sleep.

While she slept, a battered and bloody young dog dragged himself up the hill and into the loner lands. He carried a tiny bundle of fur in his mouth, barely alive. Collapsing to the ground, the male dog uttered a helpless moaning sound. He licked the tiny pup lovingly, tears forming in his eyes. "I'm so sorry, my daughter. I have failed you, and your mother." he said, his voice deep and soothing despite his horrid state. Then, he forced his bloodshot eyes to look around for the last time. To his shock and relief, he saw a den in the distance. Summoning the very last bit of strength, he dragged himself to the entrance, then fell in fatigue.

Jargo rose to his feet as he heard something at the entrance of the den. Growling, he rose to his feet. "Who's there?" he snarled. Stepping outside, his eyes rested on a dog's motionless form and what appeared to be... A pup! "Harli!" Jargo barked loudly.

Harli snapped awake, leaving her pups and rushing over. Her eyes grew wide, seeing the young male and his pup. "Jargo! Who is this?!" she cried, just staring.

Smoke whined, then started in a shaky voice. "My mate was attacked four days ago by a pack of ally dogs. She was pregnant then. She gave birth to the pups early, but.... Died during delivery." His eyes watered, and finally spilled over the edge. "That one was the only one to survive." He pointed to the tiny female puppy. "The dogs attacked me later for a rabbit I had killed. I ran away with my pup, trying to find a female to nurse her." He suddenly trembled violently, then his muzzle hit the ground.
Harli's eyes widened, then she rushed to Smoke. "Jargo he'll bleed to death." She said urgently, staring at the pool of blood below the young dog.

(Sorry, we went blue berry picking.)

(That sounds like FUN!)

Jargo curled his lip in disgust and padded off to the corner of the den. "Go ahead, run your mouth. I aint gonna bite ya, now," he snarled, lating down.

(Where'd you go? LOL!)

Jargo looked at the dog with a placid, sadistic expression on his face and said, "So, let him," before resting his head on his paws and sneering at the young male.

(That sounds like FUN!)
(It was!)

Harli set her jaw, staring at he mate angrily. "Jargo. We don't have a reason to have enemies anymore! We can't let him die! Jargo, please!" She begged, pleading with him with her eyes.
