Celeste nodded, then looked at Minty as he heard her joyous exclamation. Pretending to fall to the ground at her "attack", he mock-pleaded for mercy until she scampered off, rather unexpectedly. He grinned, figuring Morado was back, then heard the fellow Digger's voice and that confirmed his suspicions. With a chuckle, he rose to his feet and walked towards the dog. His blue eyes rested on the pups at play and he chuckled.

Raven skittered up to the squeaky toy, sniffed it suspiciously, placed her jaws gingerly around it, then yanked it sharply back, slinging it about, her little puppy teeth sinking into the rubber. It finally flew from her grasp and whirled across the room, nearly hitting Mystery, barely missing him and flying past his ears.

Dixie looked at him with a defeated expression and chuckled. "Okay, I admit it: he seems like a trustworthy guy... I just don't trust him around me..." she said, casting a wary glance at him. She knew even the most loyal of dogs could easily be corrupted by their own desires and she didn't want to take her chances with Morado, or any males, for that matter.

Mystery raised a brow, a playful smile on his maw. "Don't worry, I'll protect you," he said jokingly, puffing out his chest. Laughing that off, he looked back to the toys, specifically the only remaining one. It was plush and furry, and it resembled a squirrel, though definitely a deformed one. Mystery picked it up, surprised momentarily by the high-pitched squeak it made, and then took it over to Jade, crouching there and placing it in front of his son.

"Here you go, buddy," he said with a warm smile. "Why don't you play, too?"

Meanwhile, Minty was having a blast with the ball when the squeaky toy flew into her, causing her to yelp with surprise. "Hey!" she whined, looking around almost accusingly.

Light pawsteps echoed hollowly across the Jargoan shore of the koi pond, and the look in the eyes of the dog who made the sound was just as empty as the noise her paws made. Runa had grown bored of her current home, skirting the evil dogs but stealing their prey, and had decided to leave in search of an easier life. As she reached the Jargoan border, she paused. It would be tough until she found a better place to live. The thought caused her to hesitate. But she did not fear, her thoughts guided by logic, and so she knew she was making the right choice.

She began to leave, only to hesitate again. A dog was standing nearby, she realized, a dog that dwarfed her in size and whose menacing eyes searched her as if trying to decide what he was going to do with her. She turned to face him boldly, feeling confident that she was in no real danger in spite of that menacing dog's look. His name was Delano, if she recalled correctly. She had heard plenty about him and knew that if she could get him to take care of her, she would be set for life.

For the longest time, they just stared at one another. Runa was not sure what was the matter with this Delano fellow, for she had heard he was usually much more aggressive than this. Figuring someone had better break the silence, Runa decided to speak. She had gathered enough from his expression, that hard outer cover for the deep sadness inside and the loss he had experienced. He came off as someone that was not always the way he was. And following this train of thought to its logical conclusion, Runa felt she had Delano figured out.

"...You had a family once, didn't you?" she asked gently, putting on the expression she had seen other dogs use when they were being kind toward others. She took a step toward Delano, hoping to come off as comforting. But Delano's eyes had widened at her words, and before Runa could say any more, the massive dog turned and left, as silently as he always did.

Runa rolled her eyes. So much for that idea. And she crossed the border to the loner's lands. She would want a pack to keep her safe and well fed... But which one would be best for her..? She thought about this as she walked along, her pawsteps still as hollow as her heart...

Quote: Dixie smiled. "Oh you will, huh?" she said, brows raised in surprise. She shook her head and chuckled, then sat down. Her heart felt warm and happy as she watched Mystery bring a toy to Jade, whom had been sitting and looking around in confusion the whole time. She watched the little pup's face light up with delight as he took the toy from his father, though he did jump when it squeaked.

Raven caught Minty's accusing gaze and slunk up to her sister, picking up the chewy and walking away with it, hoping her sister wouldn't raise cane over the situation.

(Gah, I don't evah want tha puppies ta grow up! DX They're so cute!)

(Poor Delano... You just have to feel bad for him...)

"Of course," Mystery replied, though that time he sounded sincere. He nuzzled her cheek, his green eyes twinkling happily as they looked into her brown gaze.

Shifting awkwardly at the show of affection, Morado cleared his throat, drawing Mystery's attention away from Dixie. "Well, I'd best get back to diggin'," he said, shuffling his paws.

Mystery nodded. "Kids, get your toys so we can take them back to our den," he said to the three pups, looking just in time to see Minty catch sight of Raven.

"You!" squeaked Minty, bouncing toward her sister. Though it was clear she was playing, she still tried to keep a serious look on her face. "How dare you hit the affla with a chewy toy!" she said in mock-authority, puffing out her chest. Hearing her father, though, she dropped the game, toddling over while rolling the ball with her nose. It was much too big for her to pick up, Mystery noticed, smiling warmly. "How about I get that for the little 'affla'?"

Minty took on the sort of pose she frequently saw Cerise use. "You may, daddy," she replied in a rather dry tone, though she was obviously having a hard time keeping her face that serious.

Picking up the ball, Mystery looked to Raven and Jade, expecting that they would get ready to leave as well.

(( Chroma pack is trapped in a time bubble so the pups don't have to grow up. XD ))

Quote: Raven fake-cringed, her mouth falling open. The squeak toy fell out of her mouth and rolled a few paces away, vanishing into the depths of an empty soup can. As Minty walked after Mystery, Raven scurried to retrieve her toy and walked right up to the can. The lid was half open, but the gap was not wide enough for Raven to fit her paw in, so she tried to pry the lid open. She was oblivious to the sharpness of the lid, as well as the fact that it was about to slice her pad open... Until it was too late, that is.

Dixie was rounding up Jade and checking to make sure Minty was with her father. When she saw Raven, she gasped, "Raven, get away from tha--" but was cut off by Raven's scream of pain as the rusty metal pressed too deep and cut her pad wide open. Blood immediately gushed out of the wound and onto the ground. Dixie raced up to her distraught pup and grabbed her by the nape of the neck. Raven had gotten her toy, but was paying a price for having done so.

Racing up to Mystery, eyes wide with fright, she yelped, "Raven cut her pad on a can lid!"

(Yup, that solves the problem! XD And I'm thinking of changing Raven's personality... I don't want her to be a grump when she grows up! D: )

Mystery's eyes widened and he dropped Minty's ball, his green gaze falling on Raven. "You get the others home, I'll take her to Saffron," he said urgently, giving Dixie another affectionate nuzzle before galloping over and sweeping Raven up by her scruff. "Hang on, sweetie, and we'll get you all fixed up," he uttered soothingly to his daughter as he trotted out of the mines and toward Saffron's den.

Hesitating at the opening of the medical dog's den, Mystery gently placed Raven on the ground at his feet and peered in. "Saffron! Raven's cut her paw!" he called, hoping the medical dog was there to respond.

Meanwhile, Minty watched her father go, then looked to her mother with concern. "Momma, is Raven gonna be okay?" she asked.

Morado, having not left yet, saw the whole thing and found himself clearing his throat again for attention. Elbowing Celeste, he motioned toward Dixie and the pups as if to tell him to get his butt over there and help out. Trotting over himself, he smiled down to Minty. "Uh, why don't we get you home, huh?" he asked somewhat hurriedly, glancing toward Dixie with the hopes that she wouldn't lose her temper at his actions.

((Well, she's young, so her personality could change as she matures... ;) ))
