Taj began to hear the voices of dogs not too far ahead. Slowly, he began to walk again, but with every step, he felt his courage draining away. Oh, they were outnumbered. Big time! Now he was sure he shouldn't have come here. He stopped, peering ahead to where there were dogs eating from the remains of the bag of dog food that pup had run off with. But where was the kid?

Scanning the area, Taj soon caught sight of him, standing idly by as the bigger dogs ate. The question was, how would Taj get that pup's attention. "Any ideas, girls?" he breathed to the collies, his eyes not moving from the pup. He could feel his fur bristling the longer he stood there.



((ETA: Oops, I just saw your other post, OwlLover. Let's just say Taj acknowledged the collies with some added respect for their bravery.

"Not yet," Black Magic breathed.


Mel sighed quietly, sitting back against a tree as he looked at the ground. "I can't do it anymore..."

Blue overheard him, "what?"

"That human... he could have killed me! My leg hurts really badly... I can't do it anymore, Blue... I just can't..."

The sound of snapping teeth echoed through the air as Blue lunged for the pup, clamping down hard on his foreleg. The dogs who were eating instantly stopped and looked at him.

"You follow my orders, you brat!" Blue snarled.

"Blue, please!" A dalmatian said.

"Mel's been punished enough," a kai ken added, before looking over at Mel and snarling. "Mel, apologize to Blue right now!"

"I'm sorry!" Mel cried.

"Kage, shut up!" Blue snarled, "I'll kill this brat!"

"Oh, I see." Nessa glanced at Dixie warily. "Um...what is with all the Negro pack members running around?"

"Members of Negro Pack joined my pack!" Endigo said triumphantly. He glanced over at Sedna. "I don't trust her..." he whispered to Nessa.

(OwlLover, you need to make Sedna do something that boosts Endigo's confidence in her, or he's going to see right through her evil plan.)

Taj's hackles rose as he watched the scene unfold, his mind beginning to race. Surely, he couldn't just leap out there or this deranged dog might just kill the little guy! But what else was there to do? Knowing that he would certainly be facing his own demise, he swallowed hard and looked to Black Magic and Lightning. "I'm going out there. I'll distract them. You two can get the little dude to safety, right?" He waited for their responses before he acted.

Jargo grinned wickedly. He snatched the yelping puppy by the scruff and held her up for Layla to see. "Come quietly, or I'll kill Melanie!" he growled through his teeth. He narrowed his red eyes, and stared into Layla's eyes, staring, staring deep into her soul... what would she do?

Layla cried with fright. She froze, cringing under Jargo's horrid glare. She thought about her options. Charge at Jargo? No, that would endanger Melanie. She looked down at her mate, and burst out in tears. "Please! Please don't hurt my pup or my mate!" She cried, tears blinding her vision. "I'll come." She said finally, her head hanging. "But, Jargo, please, I beg you, don't hurt my mate or my pup." Her words came in tired sobs.
