"Really?" Sedna whispered. Inwardly she was shocked that Jargo had submitted to him, but didn't let it show.

Melanie whined and gasped, her breath coming in short gasps.

An evil smile crept across Harli's face. "Melanie is giving birth to pups, belonging to-" she was cut short by Melanie's loud voice. "They are mine and Banner's pups!" She squealed. Harli's face turned red with anger. "Where is he?!" She snarled. Melanie began to sob; "He died."

Everest padded groggily into GoldenPack camp, and howled to all of them. "All of GoldenPack meet here at the boulder!" He leaped up onto the rock, his blood spattering it.

Rex looked helplessly at Melanie. Any minute now, Jargo would order someone to kill him, for the penalty for traitors was death. Rex knew this because he had killed a traitor under Jargo's command.

"Harli," Jargo said. "Kill Rex."

Harli's eyes gleamed with excitement. "With pleasure." She snarled and advanced.
Layla, who had been hiding in the shadows; her coat blending in the darkness, sprang out and clamped her jaws around Harli's throat. "NO! DIE YOU STUPID MUTT OF A DOG!" She screamed. Harli writhed, throwing the smaller dog off. "Your the stupid mutt of a dog." She snarled viciously.
Melanie's mind raced. She now had two small pups squirming next to her belly, and was in no position to fight. "Rex! Run!" She yelped, and snapped her jaws at him. "Take Layla with you!!!" She screamed as Harli brought her jaws down on her mother's leg.
