Harli's eyes gleamed with excitement. "With pleasure." She snarled and advanced.
Layla, who had been hiding in the shadows; her coat blending in the darkness, sprang out and clamped her jaws around Harli's throat. "NO! DIE YOU STUPID MUTT OF A DOG!" She screamed. Harli writhed, throwing the smaller dog off. "Your the stupid mutt of a dog." She snarled viciously.
Melanie's mind raced. She now had two small pups squirming next to her belly, and was in no position to fight. "Rex! Run!" She yelped, and snapped her jaws at him. "Take Layla with you!!!" She screamed as Harli brought her jaws down on her mother's leg.

Rex grabbed Layla's scruff and dragged her out of the den, away from Harli. "RUN!" he howled. He ran East, desperate, crying. He just knew they were going to kill Melanie.

Layla frantically tried to keep up with his crazed pace. "NO!" She cried, "I CAN'T LEAVE MY DAUGHTER!!!!"

Melanie whined, and huddled into the corner. Harli's eyes flashed with such a hateful gleam, her gaze almost seemed to burn though the cave wall. "Now, I suppose you have sacrificed your life for your mother and that stupid traitor." She cackled. "Should I kill her quickly, or slowly.... what do you think hon?" She asked Jargo.

Melanie shuddered with horror. "NO! Jargo, please!! I beg you!! NO!" Melanie cried, her eyes pleading, curling her body around her pups.
"SHUT UP!" Harli shrieked. "I'VE ENOUGH OF YOUR BEGGING! YOU KNEW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU BECAME MATES WITH BANNER!!"

"Hey, Black Magic?" Sedna whispered to the grieving collie.

Black Magic lifted her head slowly. "Yes, Sedna?"

"Come with me to hunt," she said gently, leading the collie away.
