Our 8 week old road Island red survived a raccoon attack three days ago; (but lost the other two) she seems to be doing well, keeping her inside until she is completely healed. I tried to take her outside today, and when I put her down she appeared to play dead rolling to her side and stretching her wing and foot. I tried to comfort her, but brought her inside quickly. How long should I wait to start letting her graze again.

Laying over dead with wing and leg out in sun sounds like sun bath to me too. The coolest feeling is when you bring a chick out into sunlight and they do that in your palm! It's so cute! Glad your bird made it and I'd say she's ready to go out if she's healed. Just was happy to feel the sun!

Thank u so much. That makes me feel so much better. Do u think where she has scabs fee feathers will grow back?

Chickens have amazing regenerative abilities.

Below are the weekly progression of a hen who was attacked by a dog. ALL her feathers grew back and there was no scar after a year!
