Surviving the Heat!

It seems there is a mega heat wave everywhere! I was wondering if you can give your chickens energy drinks, not anything as strong as monster, but more like propel, or gatorade, or even powerade,

You c an put Sav a Chick electrolytes in their water, but you should also provide plain water

I doubt that chickens benefit from all the salts and sugars in energy drinks. Just plain water seems to be the best.

I've been putting ice cubes in their water. 99 today and 106 predicted for Saturday. Gross.

I don't think energy drinks is a great idea...I filled empty apple juice bottles with water and freeze. Then I put a clean plastic garbage can lid, face up, in their pen, place the frozen bottles in and fill with an inch or two of water. For Saturday, I'm thinking about plugging a fan in for them?

I'd stick with electrolites manufactured specifically for birds/animals- powder form you can mix into water. Ice in the water is good. Plus fans aimed into the run. If your humidity is low, misters in the run can be nice. Shade is critical.
